The Legend of the Guardian Bell
Many years ago, on a chilly moonlit night, an old biker with saddlebags filled with toys and trinkets for the local orphanage, was returning from a long trip.
Nearing the end of his journey, on the side of the highway, lurked a small group of evil little critters. You know the ones, they always leave obstacles like old shoes, pieces of old tyres and other odd things on the road, they also dig those dreaded potholes for bikers to hit and crash, thus giving them a chance to rejoice over their acts of evil. They are... Road Gremlins!
As the old biker rounded a curve, the gremlins ambushed him, causing him to skid and crash before coming to a stop next to one of his saddlebags that had broken free. As he lay there, unable to move, the road gremlins made their way towards his bike. The old biker, not being one to give up, started throwing things at the gremlins. Finally, with nothing else to throw but a bag of bells, he started ringing one in hopes to draw their attention, but instead found that it drove them insane and one by one the gremlins ran off into the darkness of the night.
In the distance two bikers were sitting around a campfire talking about their day’s ride, when they heard what sounded to them like church bells ringing and upon investigating, found the old biker lying along the roadside.
They proceeded to help him up and gather his bike and bags. Then they all headed over to the campsite for a cuppa where the old biker told his 2 new friends the story of the gremlins.
Before setting on his way he cut two pieces of leather from his saddlebags and tied a bell to each one. He then placed them on each of the biker’s motorcycle, as near to the ground as possible. The tired old biker then told his two new friends that with those bells placed on their bikes, they would be protected from the road gremlins and that if ever they're in trouble, just ring the bell and a fellow biker will come to their aid.
So, whenever you see a motorcycle with a bell on it, you know that the rider has been given a gift of protection👊
